My Two Week Test of Monat Haircare

A few weeks ago, my friend Andrea asked if she could send me some Monat samples to try. If you've never heard of Monat, it's a direct sales company specializing in naturally based, anti-aging haircare. Since it's not sold in stores, they have a business model centered around Market Partners like Andrea. I was very skeptical at first (direct sales companies always make me skeptical), but I figured it was worth a shot. I wasn't attached to any of the products in my routine at the time, and I was frustrated with my hair, particularly the pesky broken pieces framing my face. Anyone else have those? Mine stuck straight out at 90 degree angles, and it wasn't cute.

I was pleasantly surprised to find out that Monat leaves a lot of gross things out of their products, like parabens, sulfates, and a bunch of other stuff I can't pronounce. Cleaning up my beauty routine is one of my goals for 2018, so really this was a win-win.

After asking me a few questions about my hair (damaged, broken, naturally wavy) and how I generally style it (straight with a flat iron), Andrea sent me a package of goodies to try. Her instructions were pretty typical, except that she told me to leave the shampoo in for 2-3 minutes, and she told me to shampoo twice with each wash. I don't think I've ever done that before. Also, the amount she suggested I use of each product was definitely less than I would have used on my own.

My typical routine over the course of this trial was to use the Revive Shampoo, Revitalize Conditioner, Rejuvabeads (split-ends mender), and Blow Out Cream. Andrea picked all these out for me. My experience went something like this:

Day 1:  Forgot to leave the shampoo in for 2-3 minutes. Just went on auto-pilot and rinsed it right out. My hair was pretty tangled when I tried to run a comb through after showering, but it feels so soft while blow drying! It's greasy at the roots...maybe old product build-up? I'm making a mental note to remember to leave the shampoo in for longer next time.

Day 2:  Remembered to let the shampoo sit for a few minutes before rinsing, and my roots aren't as greasy. My little broken hairs are still sticking straight out, but I'm feeling encouraged to keep going.

Day 5:  Got complimented on my hair at work today. You know when people think you got your hair done, and you’re thinking no actually I just showered today.

Day 7:  Realized that I can tuck my hair behind my ears now without those pesky broken hairs sticking straight up! It's going to take some time for them to grow out, but they are now drying down smooth and way more manageable.

Day 8:  Tried adding Monat's Rejuveniqe Oil Intensive to my routine today. I'm so awful with hair oils. I always feel like I apply too much, and this was no different. My hair felt greasy after using it. Going back to my routine without it tomorrow.

Day 9:  This shampooing twice thing is pretty sweet. The first time you wash, it removes product build-up and won't create many suds, but the second wash lathers like crazy to cleanse your hair. I'm starting to feel panicked about running out of my samples, and I've decided that I need to place an order.

Day 11:  Placed my order! I waited a few days longer than planned because life got busy, but I'm glad I did because I caught a flash sale and got a discount on the conditioner. I decided to order the Revive Shampoo, Revitalize Conditioner, Rejuvabeads, and Blow Out Cream. I didn't order the Rejuveniqe Oil. I felt like my hair looked too greasy after using it.

Day 14: My hair looks healthy and feels so soft. I'm pretty positive that over time I can get these annoying broken hairs to fully grow out without continued breakage. I'm excited to keep going!

I ended up enrolling as a "VIP" when I ordered. It was a $20 one-time fee that gets me free shipping, a 15% discount, and free products with my orders. With my first order, I got a jumbo-sized Air Dry Cream and the crazy-looking wet brush pictured up above for free. The freebies change monthly. To be clear, this is not the same as becoming a Market Partner. I don't sell Monat, but my friend Andrea does, and she's way better at explaining all this than me. If you have any questions about the products, you can find her on Instagram and  Facebook, or just let me know and I'm happy to connect you!

The samples I used during this trial were provided c/o Andrea Resnick for Monat, but all opinions are 100% my own.
