Life Lately: Chicago Summertime

And just like that, it's already mid August. The past few months have been crazy busy with weddings and work travel, but we've also managed to enjoy this beautiful (but hot!) Chicago summer.

A major highlight of the summer so far has been our first anniversary staycation. It was difficult to find time for a longer trip with all the travel we've done lately, so we decided to stick with Chicago. We kicked off the weekend at AIRE Ancient Baths, and oh my goodness it was a magical world of relaxation. It definitely wasn't cheap, so I recommend it for special occasions, but it's such a unique spa experience. We spent about an hour wandering through the the baths and steam rooms and then went for the Himalayan Salt Experience, which was a 30-minute body wrap and exfoliation followed by a 60-minute hot stone massage. Take a look through their website because the photos are amazing. Two thumbs up from us!

After our spa treatments, we stayed downtown at The Wit (love the rooftop!), and the next morning we went to brunch at Maple & Ash. I'll tell you what, Maple & Ash does brunch right. They only do it on Sundays, so plan accordingly, and make sure you arrive hungry. It's a GIANT buffet...they serve up station after station with everything from your typical scrambled eggs to carved filet mignon. One of my favorites was their Eggs in Purgatory. (I found the exact recipe online here!) Also, if you're bored waiting for your order at the egg station, take a peek under the silver tray...secret breakfast shots! 😎

Fast forward a few weeks...this past weekend was beautiful, and we were able to get in some good park time. We hit up Lincoln Park on Saturday and Oz Park on Sunday. This park blanket continues to be one of our best Amazon purchases. Hank sure liked it! Unfortunately, Hank isn't ours, but he was absolutely living his best life soaking up the sun this weekend. Isn't he adorable?

I tend to be a creature of habit, and on leisurely weekend mornings (way too rare lately) my two go-to's are La Colombe and Chicago Bagel Authority. La Colombe's Black and Tan draft latte is THE summertime coffee drink in my opinion (I put cinnamon in mine), and CBA is a staple for bagel sandwiches. You'll be underwhelmed if you're looking for a plain bagel and cream cheese, but their massive menu of sandwiches will keep you coming back. My latest pick is the Lean Jean. Hint: There are more options than what they put up on the big menu boards...so be sure to check out the full menus sitting on the counter.

What have you been up to so far this summer?
