So I know I'm a bit late to the game with this one (alright, I'm about four years late to the game), but I feel like Walgreens deserves some love for its Look Boutique concept. Have no idea what I'm talking about? Take a look...
If you're lucky enough to live in Chicago or a handful of other cities with Walgreens flagship stores (LA, San Fran, NYC, Miami, to name a few...) you should really check it out. Walgreens has curated a number of prestige brands, including some lesser known gems, into their Look Boutique. NYC shoppers will recognize this from Duane Reade stores.
So why the Look Boutique? Well, for starters, they've selected a really interesting range of brands. They have The Balm Cosmetics (which notably isn't carried in Sephora or Ulta), Cargo, Pop Beauty, and a whole slew of European treasures like NUXE, Avène, Gosh, La Roche Posay, and Boots. And if that wasn't enough of a reason to start perusing the department, they have...wait for it...they have product testers. Yes, a drugstore that actually allows you to sample cosmetics! It's the norm across the pond but definitely not here in the U.S. Granted, the prices aren't all drugstore either (you know you've left "drugstore" prices behind when you walk into the department and the first thing you see is a T3 hairdryer), but the Walgreens loyalty program still stands. So go load up on your Balance Rewards points for buying toilet paper and use them on a new mascara. Sounds like a win-win to me.
What should you grab while you're there? I was immediately drawn to the Boots No7 display. I'm familiar with Boots skincare, but I don't think I've ever seen the full cosmetics range in a brick-and-mortar Chicago store before the Look Boutique. Now that Walgreens and Boots are housed under the same holding company (again, I realize I'm a few years late with this "breaking" news), we get to enjoy the British beauty here at home. I'm currently digging the Boots Airbrush Away Foundation. It has such a lightweight, smooth, matte feel that I think it's going to be perfect for summer! It layers beautifully over my favorite sunscreen by Paula's Choice (read more about my sunscreen love here). The dropper bottle is a bit annoying (I'd much prefer a pump), but the formula is so good that I've overlooked the packaging. Side note...Is it just me or is everyone and their mother coming out with a foundation in a dropper bottle this year?
If you're looking to spice up your skincare game, there's a lot for you at the Look Boutique. It's great to see a number of brands from French pharmacies make their way to the U.S. I've turned to the La Roche Posay Effaclar Purifying Foaming Gel in the past for my acne prone skin, and take a look at NUXE for lip care or their cult favorite dry oil. The one French gem that I'm still waiting on a U.S. retailer to pick-up is Bioderma. I can't figure out why NO ONE sells it in-store. Walgreens, are you listening?? It would be a perfect addition to the Look Boutique collection!
Have you shopped the Walgreens Look Boutique? What are some of your favorite finds?
